Ok... Today the Senators decided to "hold Republicans Hostage" for a 21 hour Filibuster to try to get Gun Control Legislation Passed.. They set up a Hashtag on twitter for this : #NoBillNoBreak

Now why am I mentioning this?

Some idiots are using these stupid hashtags to feed FALSE INFO to the senators now. FALSE INFO that bashes violent games.  Like this tweet:

The tweet in question links to the following extremely flawed study...

The Study Attempts to use Heart Rate and GSR to "prove" violent games make people "desensitized" to "Real Life" Violence.  That's complete Bunk. Number 1, video games can make people "desensitized" to video game violence, but since fake violence in a video game is not the same as "real" violence there is no way a game can desensitize a person to "real life" violence because they are different.

But the real problem with this study is it's trying to use measurements from areas OUTSIDE the brain to prove "desensitization" to real life violence. Your reaction to a real life violence can't be measured that way at all. It's complete nonsense. Since "desensitization" is a brain thing, measuring those two things makes no sense... Seeing Real life violence doesn't shock people enough to raise their heart rate or GSR.  And even if that was true, there are other factors that can cause those two things to happen, so seeing those two results doesn't really prove violent games "desensitize" people to real life violence. It's a hack, a completely crazy one too.

But what really pisses me off is idiots like "My Atlanta Tweeps" trying to HIJACK a gun control debate to legislate their version of morality where violent games get banned or censored. It's sick. Violent games don't cause real life violence, that's BS I have debunked tons of times before. There are even studies proving this now. I am not making this up. There is even a study that disproves the whole idea that video games desensitize people to real life violence as well. You can read it here.

Well.. More Fucking Idiots are jumping on the "Shit on the Graves of the 50 dead in the orlando shooting to bash violent games" bandwagon. Case and point... This Article.



The writer of this article is a fucking moron, who blames violent games for previous shootings that had nothing to do with them, and erroneously says Call of Duty was played by the Columbine Shooters, when that's Impossible (Call of duty wasn't out in 1999 you fucking idiot! Do your fucking research!) And he prefaces it by saying he isn't blaming shootings on games but then implies it's the games fault by saying there is a "connection" between Call of Duty for Columbine and Sandy hook.

First of all you fucking idiot, Columbine was a BOTCHED TERRORIST Attack, done to kill as many a cops as possible to get revenge for a police rape in an arrest for bomb making materials. It had NOTHING to do with games. We don't even know the reason Adam Lanza shot up Sandy Hook, but I don't think It was video games. Video games simply don't have levels where you can get the idea to mass murder a school filled with toddlers and teachers. There are NO games featuring that idea so fuck off.

Lo and behold, some stupid idiot ran an article bashing violent games after the ucc shooting. The article spreads tons of lies surrounding video games and video game violence. It's nonsense and I can't stand nonsense like this. I will debunk it's claims 1 by 1 to show how stupid it is...

The idea he played all day was her invention. No other articles are saying he was a gamer. This one is clearly making it up too!

These were the responses by other people SUPPORTING his decision to kill innocent people! People responded by calling the death toll a “score,” and how they were disappointed he had not killed more. One cannot turn a blind eye to the obvious link between violent video games and mass murders. For the 40th time this year, the 141st time since the Sandy Hook Massacre, a gunman has opened fire in a school. Hollywood, especially the gaming industry, should be taking some of the responsibility for these shootings."

They are all being funded by groups like  the "Center for Successful Parenting" who say in their mission statement that their goal is to get the health industry, the government and the media to get rid of media violence. These studies are NOT to be trusted.

It doesn't help that the damn police killed the shooter (instead of knocking him unconscious with a stun gun or something) making it way easier for people to believe the scapegoating that violent games are the cause, because the Perp isn't alive to disprove the crazy idea violent games directly caused the shooting...

I was on twitter when I saw this bullshit being spread. Apparently the moral panic surrounding the Charleston shooting, isn't limited to the o'reilly factor's BS. Now a zealot on facebook is calling for the ban of violent entertainment after the shooting, a shooting that had nothing to do with violent games. It's fucking pathetic.

This has gotten 293,644 brainwashed fucktards to share or like it. Which is pathetic. One of these fucktards could in theory try to get President Obama to legislate violent games... This is a big threat to our freedom. It's disgusting. People like this need to shut up and learn to stop blaming violent games for the crime, when we don't even know if the shooter even played them, and when we already fucking know the motive, racism!

The first and second quote says that the removal of any forced violence (aka making it so violence is a choice) is not good enough to be considered innovation, and implies only removal of all violence is really innovation. Basically this censor is trying to change the industry to get rid of violence slowly. Him and his video producing lacky are constantly spewing out crap about sexism in violent games that is mostly cherry picked nonsense, but crap like this needs to be exposed too..

His second quote implies that he doesn't want the ability to NOT murder every one in sight to be a choice but something that is forced on people. It's complete hogwash. His third quote implies that "fun" in gaming leads to real life violence. It doesn't. Over 200,000,000 gamers were alive in 2012. And even more before that. Out of that 9 gamers have committed major killing spree murders. That's still 0%....

The bill makes allows copyright infringement of temporary copies. That would allow the copyright holders or the government to find people guilty of criminal infringement if they merely watch youtube videos that the copyright holders claim are infringing. The copyright holders have a record of trying to shut down videos they don't have the copyright for, especially  youtube. UMG shut down many videos on youtube but they didn't own the copyright at all.

Due to the TPP the ISP's now have to use "Deep Pack Inspection", a technique to read packets, on people looking for "infringing" content. If they find the temporary copies of a youtube video (which get generated by merely watching it), they can say it's infringing and then shut the person down, pull the plug on the internet and arrest them.

This would illegalize merely watching youtube videos due to this...

I think it's about time that we (MA citizens) Contacted Senator Elizabeth Warren (who is fighting the fast  track bill) and tell her these concerns.  If you are from MA, Please do this. We can't let the TPP pass!

Trans-Pacific Partnership Update, We need to stop it.

It seems the Trans-Pacific Partnership is being "Fast Tracked" Into the Congress without a debate. It's time to stop this nonsense gamers. The bill that is being used to get it in is the Fast Track Bill. This bill allows the Obama Admin to Force legislation through congress without a debate, without checks and balances, and worse.... Who knows what kind of other laws could be "fast" tracked through congress if they abuse this bill.. This needs to be opposed.

The trans-pacific partnership would allow the government to use deep packet filtering (a technique to read packets) to find if buffer copies distributed through watching youtube videos are "copyright infringing", and then shut down the site, destroy the computer doing the "infringing" and worse. Due to the way the law is set up, it would only take one accusation of infringement, without proof needed. This needs to be Opposed NOW.

This could be abused like no others. Any sites that are "accused" of copyright infringement would be shut down. This is not limited to pirate sites. Youtube has tons of pirated content on it, so do modding sites and many other sites including blogging sites. In an article I linked here before, I discovered that a music industries list of pirate sites had gaming file download sites on it (Gamefront.com) and Telegfragged.com (A Host for many fan sites)... This is bad. We need to stop it ASAP.

Contact your REP and talk to them and send the message to them that this Fast Track nonsense is not needed!

PROOF that the Adam Lanza "Score Sheet" is FAKE.

Since the Newtown massacre, dozens of news articles have been saying Adam Lanza made a 7 by 4 foot tall spreadsheet with info on previous murders. The articles try to claim it is the work "of a deranged gamer" and that he killed himself to "save points", at the same time, stereotyping gamers as murderers.

I did some more research into the fake Adam Lanza "Deranged gamer score sheet" claim today. Apparently the original article, which is here, said it was a document on his computer. Only problem is that it was found, that he destroyed the Hard drive of his computer, according to this site. How could the spreadsheet document even exist?! A PC with a Hard drive that has failed due to destruction won't start. No way can anyone retrieve info from that Hard Drive. It's impossible. This article proves they did not succeed at retrieving data from his Hard drive, so how could this document be real?

This means that this spreadsheet claim IS fake.

This is PROOF Lupica made up this crap. He is a scumbag. People like him should be rotting in jail for spreading hate speech. It pisses me off. How can a newspaper allow him to spread nonsense like this? How can the government? Since sandy hook, the government has done NOTHING to stop the spread of media fabrications surrounding video games or gamers like the article. It's their responsibility to prevent BS like this. DO something to punish the media for calling gamers murderers and claiming this spreadsheet is real. They won't because they too think gamers are potential school shooters.

Talk to your senators about this. Say how you dislike nonsense being spread about violent games like this fake spreadsheet. Say how the article stereotypes gamers as murderers. Say how the spreadsheet document mentioned in the article is fake and that his PC had it's hard drive destroyed so nothing could be recovered from it. The government investigation claims it's real. Complain about that too. It's disgusting. Make them feel your wrath.

I am going through with the plan to petition the government to regulate the media. I plan to go to the whitehouse.gov site and start a petition there. Adam Lanza "Score Sheet" Hoax is the latest of crap BS attacking Games.

My previous 2 articles go into a supposed deranged gamer "Score Sheet" Adam Lanza made, which detailed the weapon types, kill count and other things on 500 murders. An Article by a New York Newspaper claimed the Police found this spreadsheet, and said it was 7 foot by 4 foot, and had 500 murders on it. Only problem is that for 500 names to fit in a spreadsheet, it would have to be made in a smaller font than the 9 font they said it had. Only 420 names can fit on a spreadsheet that is 7 feet tall in a 9 font.

The original article attacked games and gamers heavily, claiming Adam Lanza was trying to outdo previous shooters done by gamers in a "video game world" when he shot up Newtown. They also claimed killing yourself was preferrable in their stupid BS "Code of a Gamer" to being caught because other "gamers" (they mean school shooters) could take your "points" you were trying to earn while shooting up a school. This whole article stereotyped gamers by trying to say gamers = murderers and is quite disgusting at the least, and hate speech at the worst.

Dozens of newspapers cited this crap and spread the anti-gamer stereotype even further by doing so, each one of the articles citing the original mentions the BS code of a gamer and how gamers live violent fantasies by trying to commit school massacres in their own sick real life version of the games they play. Not a single one of these articles attacked the original for this nonsense, not a single one, and that's telling. You'd think in this day and age, anti-gamer stereotyping would be attacked massively but the gamers just don't care. None of them complained. NONE. I'm the only one complaining, long after the fact, because I recently found out that there are still articles from more recent times citing this crap. And it pisses me off.

But what really pisses me off is the fact that the writer made up a bunk spreadsheet claim, used it to attack gamers and games, and the Government of Connecticut themselves said it was real. It's the latest in a long line of BS claims being used against violent games, and the first fake evidence claim I've seen to be used against gamers themselves. It stereotypes all gamers as adam lanza wannabees with their 500 name spreadsheets and murder fantasies. Most Real gamers don't do crap like this. Most don't obsess over murders, guns, and violence in general. We may play violent games but most enjoy the games for the challenge, story, and atmosphere, NOT the violence. The whole stereotype that gamers are violent sociopaths is being spread by the initial article AND the articles citing it and therefore also by the Connecticut government because they are claiming the spreadsheet is real and it is a product of an anti-gaming article so by default they are spreading the stereotype as well.

Previous fake evidence claims always were about demonizing games themselves by providing "evidence" that shooters killed real people due to the violent games influence. The Doom will become reality hoax, a fake Eric harris website did this, it had a page saying "on april 21'st the fires will light up, doom will become reality", making it look like Doom Influenced Harris. FBI proved it was fake by figuring out the site went up after the massacre, but still hundreds of articles tried to use this to attack Doom. 3 Newspapers conspired after this, to make up a claim stating that a hate site tracking group found a Modified version of doom that Harris used to "train" for the massacre, complete with begging students in the game. Only issue is that the features mentioned could not have been done in doom till 2001 at the earliest (long after Harris was Dead). But people still used this to attack Doom as well in articles citing this. This even got spread to the American Psychological association and was cited in a paper done by them that tried to claim Violent games make people violent. The previous hoax was put in an Amicus Brief by the Eagle forum for Brown Vs EMA to try to sway the Supreme Court with faked evidence. Both of these didn't go as far as to Stereotype gamers. The newest one does, and it's a change for the Anti-gamers, a change that is NOT needed!

If Connecticut is using this evidence to demonize gamers, they have stepped to a new low here. Saying he Spreadsheet is real is one thing, but then citing the article that said it's the work of a "video gamer" by making us all look like Adam Lanza Clones is Disgusting. I plan to Go to Connecticut soon within a month or so. I want to see how far this BS has spread. I will order a Doom Shirt online and go into a Wendies in a Connecticut town (wish it was Newtown but my families day trip to Connecticut is way to far away from there), and see if people give me any dirty looks or crap like that. If they do, it's more evidence Connecticut has become the next Colorado in terms of violent game moral panic related BS.

I don't know what will stop crap like this, other than massively limiting the powers of the media to spread false truths. That's the only thing that will help to me. The problem with that is that neither major party would support this idea. Democrats hate violent games. They would never support something that stops their allies from spreading lies about such games, which fuels the moral panics needed to get their bills voted in. Republicans love the big businesses. The media businesses are HUGE. There is no way they will support it either due to this. So basically this means that crap like this is going to happen and nothing can be done about it. What can be done about it is gamers actually calling out journalists that make up stupid claims like this that demonize gamers. Let them feel your wrath. Gamers aren't doing enough to protest this kind of stuff. When it's obvious it's fake and it makes gamers look bad, post comments on the newspaper article saying you don't like it. This can actually work if enough people did this. Bad comments can make a newspaper look bad. That can get them to have bad reputations. If they were flooded with negative comments over  their article they might think twice about spewing the same vile shit again. But the problem is that gamers aren't willing to do this. They are too pre-occupied with games to really care.

Adam Lanza's "Score Sheet" Spreadsheet is a Hoax designed to Stereotype Gamers

For years, news writers have been claiming Adam Lanza created a massive 7 by 4 foot spreadsheet detailing previous killers murders. The article that it  first was mentioned in had massive anti-gamer stereotyping in it, claimed it as a "gamer score sheet", mentioned a bullshit "code of a gamer" which says it's preferable to kill  yourself then to be caught, and other nonsense.

The police and the state of Connecticut have been massively anti-gaming from the get go, back to the time of Senator Lie-Berman's BS. It's no surprise they are using this against gamers, but I still don't like it. The article stereotypes gamers as murderers, and the police are directly behind the nonsense in that article. Nonsense? Well according to me, this spreadsheet cannot exist.

Why?

The spreadsheet supposedly is 7 feet by 4 feet, written in a 9 font, and contains 500 murders in the columns. I looked at a spreadsheet made in Open Office (identical to Excel in everything but name) and found out that with a 9 font, 1 inch equaled 5 columns. Multiply that by 12 to get columns in a foot and you get 60. Multiply that by 7 (for 7 feet) and you get only 420 columns. This spreadsheet is impossible! It cannot fit 500 names in it. Therefore, it can't be real.

It's BS and the official investigation claims it's real. The state of Connecticut is using faked evidence to attack games again. And they are stereotyping gamers as murders when only 2 out of 211,000,000 gamers (0% of gamers) have killed people in 2012.  It's complete BS and it must stop.

Top 5 Games that could have spawned Controversies, but Didn't... (Old Blog Repost)

I’ve blogged about the top 5 video game controversies… Now I’m going to talk about the top 5 games that could have been controversial but werent. These games had elements to them that would piss off the most right wing evangelist preacher or video game critic. But they slipped under the radar thanks to other games that were more popular or more offensive or both…

5: Fable
Think of a game where you can do the following A) Get Maried b) have Sex C) Eat harmless little chickens. D) Flip off people in the game world and scream OY! (ACDC style). Fable allowed you to do this. All of this. And not one major complaint about it. I remember my friend playing it and constantly pissing off his virtual wife in the game to cause a ‘divorce’ to happen. It was a riot, especially the whole ‘OY!’ flipoff sequence. Imagine the controversy this could have caused…. Wow…

4: Fallout : New Vegas
A Game with a Sexbot. Ok……… And Prostitutes, complete with uber gorey detailed sex scenes… And one of the funniest controversial parts involves recruiting the sex bot and ‘testing’ it. It was so bad. “I cant feel my knees!” They lambasted Mass Effect for supposed Rape Scenes and are doing the same thing to bulletstorm but this…. It’s being swept under the rug. And IMHO, It’s far gorier than Bulletstorm. This and Fallout 3 have the goriest death sequences, heads popping off with gore flying out in slowmo. It’s disgusting. It could have been such a huge controversy but was also swept under the rug.


3: Fallout 3
Like New Vegas above, this could have caused a shitstorm with  the gore factor. Very gorey game and never really caused any major controversy. I’m shocked. It’s so gory and it’s very dark and post apocalyptic. Very eerie and has some parts that could have caused a major backlash, like the ability to kill kids, the ability to blow up a town with a nuclear bomb and worse.

2:  Serious Sam
The quintesential reincarnation of the almighty Duke Nukem 3D 5 years later, Serious Sam is one of my favorite games ever. It’s gorey, and violent, but that’s not the reason I love it. It has absolutely hundreds of enemies running at you at once. The sheer amount of carnage seen on one screen can be rediculas. 500+ enemies per level. 100+ foot tall boss enemies. 300 foot tall final boss. It’s off the charts. MASSIVE miles across levels.  It’s controversial in that it has really violent gore effects and has the same badass taunts and bad language duke3d has but isn’t quite as bad because it lacks any kind of sexual content. But since it’s not popular around here and is liked mostly by European gamers (It’s made by a Croatian game company – Cro-Team), it’s not popular to get on the game critic’s radar.

1: Blood
Pretty much the most disgusting game I’ve ever played. You eat beating bloody hearts for health, the gore is rediculas as enemies die with very painful tortured screams. It’s so visceral and very disturbing. Especially the ability to kill shirtless innocents who run around screaming as you pitchfork them to death in it. This game is VERY mature and is off the charts in violent content. It’s so bad that I thought that It’s a miracle no one banned it. Of course it does have it’s fun side, being very challenging and filled with great horror elements like references to the shining. It’s really designed to disturb you like a classic gory horror film. It worked…. But man is it bad… And not that controversial at all.

My Opinions on Brown vs EMA (Old Blog Repost)

Reading ‘Faux’ news I found this charming little video (won’t give them the pleasure of the extra views by linking it here) discussing the Supreme court’s deliberations on whether Violent Games should be Regulated or Banned. Number 1: Violent games are obviously not for kids, especially the super violent GTA type things that I don’t think should be allowed to be sold to kids anyway, just so that 1) they don’t get their hands on it 2) I hear many  complaints that the companies who make it are marketing to kids but the complainers arent realizing that violent games ARENT legally stopped from getting into the hands of kids. The rating system set up by ESRB is constantly mistaken as being a government enforced one… It isn’t . It’s a guideline for parents… that would be read by them to make the decision on whether the game should be bought for their kids or not. It’s bad system because the retailers don’t enforce it enough or at all.

That is the real problem, violent games legally should be restricted to people 18+ and older. Some are just downright sick. I mean, I enjoy them because of their challenge and their humor or their story, but not their violence. I played through Fallout 3, being shocked by It’s gore levels, but they werent the reason why I played it. I was there for living in the games world doing quests and leveling up my character.  If the government would step in and actually  restrict violent games (any of them really, I don’t care anymore if mildly violent games (jedi knight/morrowind/etc) were restricted to adults) then half of the problems would be gone, if they can think up a very well designed and worded law to determine BY content ONLY what games should be restricted…. The current rule is a copy of the Obscenity definition which is insanely vague.  Here is the rule they are deliberating on…
“it defines violent games as works that depict “killing, maiming, dismembering, or sexually assaulting an image of a human being,” in a way that’s offensive, appeals to morbid interests, and otherwise lacks artistic merit. “

1) This is so vague. The games affected by the first part “killing,maiming,dismembering, or sexually assaulting an image of a human being” in a way that’s offensive, appeals to morbid interests and otherwise lacks artistic merit, would effect 95% of the mildly violent RPG/shooter games… because there is no definition of the ‘offensive’ , ‘morbid interests’ or ‘artist merit’. There isn’t a violent game out there that someone would judge ‘offensive’ and/or have ‘no artistic merit’. Who judges this? It doesn’t say. I can list 8 games that would fit this definition and only 1 out of 8 are super violent and have “maiming/dismembering/or sexual assaulting” in  them! (Captolized)

If this deliberation is about a complete all-ages ban (even to adults!), then it can be twisted around to ban all 8 games, because mild killing with slight blood, like seen in most of these games could be twisted to violate the statute!  Only bulletstorm fits MOST catagories of violence, killing, dismembering,maiming, and no game features sexually assaulting… But none of the games have to fit all to be banned to adults in this case… Just fit one…. So it targets ALL violent games, even mild ones… Or could.

It’s too vague… One of the ladies in the Faux Newsvideo whined about all violent games fitting all catagories mentioned, like all or most violent games allow the player to Kill, Maim, Dismember AND sexually assault (rape – something she seems to think players can do in most games, she doesn’t realize that NO games have a controllable rape scene since custers revenge back in 1989, with worse graphics than Mario brothers !), and are disgusting and lack artistic value, and then made some nonsense lie about 2 year olds she knows who play them…. If this is really an All-Age ban and not some restriction to adults… Then we have a problem, especially if the justices think like her.

How Retarded the Bulletstorm "X-rated" Skillshot Controversy Really is (old blog repost)

Reading up on the Whole Bulletstorm ‘X-rated Skillshot BS’ (Yes, that’s what I’m calling it now), made me realize how idiotic Fox News has gotten. For those who don’t know what bulletstorms ‘Skillshot’ system is, it’s a system that rewards killing enemies in different creative ways.  At the bottom of the article, taken from The Skillshots Page on the Bulletstorm Wiki is the total list of all the Skillshots in the game. Read them. How many are obviously sexual in content. 1 maybe. Rear-Entry. That’s it. Maybe Topless. Here is a lovely quote from the Fox News Article :

“The in-game awards system, called Skill Shots, ties the ugly, graphic violence into explicit sex acts: ‘topless’ means cutting a player in half, while a ‘gang bang’ means killing multiple enemies. And with kids as young as nine playing such games, the experts FoxNews.com spoke with were nearly universally worried that video game violence may be reaching a fever pitch.”

Number 1. Topless in this game means to rip the top end off of an enemy. Literally. It’s nothing about Undressing anyone. Number 2 Gang Bang can be sexual but also can refer to gang activities without any sexual acts mentioned at all.  In this case it’s neither. It’s  a very clever play on words because in the game to get a ‘gang bang’ you blow up multiple enemies at once. A Gang of bangs. It has NOTHING to do with sex in this case at all.

I looked through the hundreds of Skillshots mentioned on an OFFICIAL source (Faux doesn’t use these) trying to find anything overtly sexual to see If I was wrong. I couldn’t. Only ‘Rear’ Entry has any sexual conotation but in this case it means shooting some enemy in the butt. Doesn’t say whether the pants are off or not.  ‘Gang’ Bang in this case is NOT sexual, nor is ‘Topless”.  Even the Classic Shooter Duke Nukem 3-D (Awsome Game BTW) Has more actuall sexual content (Strippers, pornography) then Bulletstorm ever will.  Also the Quote on the Age of kids playing Bulletstorm is clearly designed to Incite complaints from ‘Save The Children’ type groups and ‘Parental Concern’ Groups. The Average age of gamers today is 34. NOT 9.  I watched the Recent ‘Adam Sessler‘s Soapbox’ Update, and Have to agree on one point. This seems Awfully desperate by Faux news to cause a controversy, for the sole purpose of causing a rediculas anti-video game moral panic that is bad enough to spread to the government to cause bans of all violent games, games far less violent then Bulletstorm it is. Claiming Bulletstorm allows people to Rape Women in the game might just do it. Even though you can’t actually do that in any game I know of besides the 1989 title ‘custer’s revenge’, that has faded to obscurity and rightfully so.

The ESRB is marketing violent games to kids, oh noes! (Old Blog Repost)

In the part 2 of the article I posted last night, I mentioned a big misconception/lie, that says that violent games are being marketed to kids... How did this misconception form?

You get idiotic parents complaining when violent games are being shown in stores where kids can see them every now and then, and even lawsuit threats. Part of the lie comes from this, people think that since kids are in stores that sell violent games the industry is marketing them to the kids. But I think a bigger reason is another misconception I see. This one says that the ESRB is legally bound to enforce their ratings at stores, based on various laws passed in states that would fine stores for selling violent games to minors.  The issue is that ESRB is a voluntary rating system, they do not have anything to do with whether the stores enforce the ratings or not. They have absolutely no say in that. But according to the people watching the idiotic media, the laws force them to do so...

The ESRB was formed after congress hearings declared the industry was good enough to police themselves.. They formed to rate content and put descriptions on boxes for parents to read. In no way shape or form are their ratings GOVT enforced. They do not get punished when violent games get sold to minors, rightfully so. It isn't their fault. They just write the ratings. It's the bad store policies that let the violent games get in the kids hands. Some people become paranoid over this and then start to blame  the industry, thinking it's some grand conspiracy.... It's not...

Due to that misconception which is spread like wildfire, and another one that says MPAA ratings are also GOVT enforced, you get people who complain when they hear about violent games being sold to kids, and they think, that the games are marketed to kids. It isn't so. The demographic on violent games is 20+ year olds. Not 10, not preteens, not 9 year olds, not toddlers, none of that.  A study by the ESA found that the average age of gamers is 34! So that debunks that part...

How to purposely engineer an Anti-gaming "Aggression" Study. (old blog repost)

Kids are aggressive. They get into fights all the time. The reasons are so varied that it's really not fair to label one thing the media keeps leeching itself on to : Violent games.  How do you know it wasn't bullying? Child Abuse? Drug Abuse? Mental Illnesses?  Bad Parenting? Stupidity? the list goes on. The studies themselves, that seem to show that violent games lead to aggressive behavior, however are a complete farce... They just are.

The methods used are designed to incite the result the anti-gamers want. That result is that violent games always increase aggression. You can't take several kids, measure their aggression in any way and determine it's result without careful study of all the factors involved. These hack psychologists don't do that..  They engineer fake results in many of the studies, (not all, but many).
This is the process used to get that result...

A) Take Half of your study group and make them play 'non-violent games' like sports games and puzzle games.
B) take the other half, subject them to electroshock therapy (I'm not kidding you there, I read it off a PDF of a study I cannot find the link to, because the article I linked was on my old blog, which I shut down to avoid libel.), And make them play 'uber violent games, GTA, Killzone 2,etc...

C) They now select the kids and make them all look at violent imagery or 'normal imagery'. Then they measure the brainwaves while this is happening.  Problem 1, lack of a reaction  to an image doesn't mean the game caused the lack of a reaction! It doesn't prove Aggression at all! All it proves, is Apathy! The lack of caring for a subject... People are offended by different things. Person 1 could find violent image 1 disturbing but person 2 will not. If person 2 played violent games, how the hell do you know it isn't some other issue causing the 'lack of brainwaves', which to me is quite the hack method in determining reaction. It sounds like a very flawed science to measure brainwaves, to determine a response. How do you know the result of the brainwave drop? Out of all the possible results? They don't test for these results do they? No they don't. Now the other  problem, is that the kids are going to be aggressive for a time being after being pumped up. They test for  the 'aggression' immediately, they don't wait till later when the levels drop... Now the other, less obvious problem, is that they don't know what causes the brainwave drop, they don't know the source. They want to make the games look like the source.. So

D) They subject the kids who played violent games to compete against eachother in a game where one kid gets to blast loud noise in the losers ears for a certain amount of seconds. But the time values involved are so small, that it's not much of a result. The time lapse is literally less than a second in some cases. So the more 'aggressive' kid holds down the button a millisecond longer. Yeah... Nice proof there. The point is, is It doesn't prove aggression... Which is always mixed up with VIOLENCE, by the anti-gamers. Like these kids are at risk of being the next Eric Harris. BS.

E) Fail to even do basic research to eliminate other causes of aggression!  No investigation is done on the kids to see if they might have problems that could lead to aggression, from factors such as bullying/drug abuse/child abuse/etc. It's not even brought up.

To bring up another point, "desensitization" to violent games doesn't prove much. All it proves is that your brain has become more accustomed to the violence in the portrayal. It doesn't mean you will act it out. Watching CSI does the same thing. But another thing bothers me about these studies. What games are the 'violent' ones chosen by psychologists. Are they games with violent combat but not disgustingly violent or are they the ones where you gun down people and chop their heads off like GTA. The choice will determine the result. Likewise do they choose sports games or kiddie games. I think they purposely chose ones that will set up the biggest difference between brain scan results and blast test results. Why not? Fudging the study for results isn't a new thing. I think they should make the kids play 10 violent games OF DIFFERENT violence quantities, not the same one per kid! Same thing with the non-violent ones. How do you trust a study that purposely chooses the least violent game for group 1 and the most violent game for the other group. You don't.

Another issue is the background of the 'subjects'. You make a kid who plays violent games (do they check that first?), and make him play Killzone 2, or Modern warfare. He will like it more and become more 'aggressive'. Then you take someone who plays a lot of puzzle games and he won't. Do they choose these kinds of people on purpose as well. It's really flawed if they put in the GTA loving kid to prove aggression when he plays GTA.... Isn't that biased or what?

All of this will make it so that the aggressive result favors the kids who played the violent games... It's biased... It's dirty. It's a fraud. And it's being used to create fear mongering among anti-gamer circles that eventually will lead to full Bans on violent games... It has to stop. Prove tendency of violence by other more obvious factors such as mental illness, drugs, etc, not violent games. Millions of kids and adults play violent games. Some of them, the less mature ones, will be more aggressive, but that doesn't prove they will go on school shooting rampages at all, it just proves they can't control themselves well enough to stop the aggression. (Aggression =/= Violence!). According to a poster on the article linked above there is not ONE study that proves a casual link between gaming and violence. NOT ONE!
